Clovis Community College Board of Trustees candidates were quizzed Tuesday in a forum coordinated by the Curry County Federated Republican Women.

Candidates covered their motivations for running, qualifications, and visions for CCC. They also addressed issues facing the community college, including the enrollment decline and the long-standing enrollment gender gap.

About 20 people attended.

Realtor Gayla Brumfield and dentist Dr. Kennedy Merritt are vying for Position 1 on the five-member board. Raymond Mondragon, a former city manager of Clovis, and Charles Guthals, a local business owner, are vying for Position 2.

“They all hit on some good points,” attendee Jennifer Williams said of the candidates.

Attendee and member of the Curry County Federated Republican Women Anne Barlow called the forum “enlightening.”

She said the forum clarified candidate positions.

Barlow said CCC Board of Trustees should “look to what the community needs and translate that into something the college can offer.”
