* District 4-1A leader Logan outmanned Grady for an 86-59 victory Thursday at Logan, led by 28 points from senior forward Austin Whetten and 23 from senior point guard Andruw Sandoval.
Junior guard Brian Blackburn kept the outmanned Bronchos in the game, scoring 22 of his 26 points in the second half.
Things turned in the final half-minute of the second period when the Longhorns forced three turnovers and extended a nine-point margin to 45-31 at the break.
Still, Grady coach Jim Kneipp said his youthful team hung in there.
“We’re really, really young,” Kneipp said. “I thought the kids played hard and well considering the situation.”
* Grady used a balanced attack and never trailed in posting a 52-46 District 4-1A win at Logan.
Grady’s Jennifer Franklin led all scorers with 13 points, while Mandy Rush also reached double-digits with 10.
The Lady Bronchos connected on two 3-pointers to Logan’s three, but attacked the hoop for more trips to the charity stripe.
Delani Hazen had two 3-pointers and 12 points for the Lady Longhorns, while Jessica Aguilera added 10.
* Playing poorly and a little out of control, Clovis Christian was shut out in the second quarter by Mosquero. Then Lady Eagles sophomore Jennifer Schaap scored 14 of CCS’s 17 fourth-quarter points for a 41-34 victory at Mosquero in 4-1A.
Schaap finished with 22 points, hitting 4-of-5 free throws in the fourth quarter.
“We got off to a slow start and sort of played out of control,” CCS coach Max Kralicek said. “In the fourth quarter, we started moving the ball better.”
Senior guard Sidnee Pool sank two 3-pointers en route to eight points for the Lady Eagles (15-8, 5-2).
Ashleigh Mitchell led the Lady Pirates with 10 points, while Tayla Jeffry chipped in eight.
