* It was a quite a night for Clovis Christian coach Randy McBroom.
First, he was coaching against his father, Rick, for the first time when the Eagles hosted the Portales junior varsity on Monday night.
Then, before the game, he proposed to his girlfriend, Ashley Tanner, in front of the crowd at the CCS gym. She accepted.
To top it off, the Eagles turned back the Rams 48-44, improving to 11-7.
“Tonight was one of those nights,” Randy McBroom said.
Will Genitski led the Eagles (11-7) with 22 points while Keeson Bell added 17. The Eagles erased a nine-point halftime deficit by outscoring the visitors 14-4 in the third quarter.
“I’m 1-0 against my dad, so I’ve got family bragging rights,” Randy McBroom said.
Billy Good led three players in double figures for the Portales JV with 15 points.
* The Lady Eagles had a little easier time of it, beating the Portales JV girls 47-22.
CCS (11-8) broke the game open with a 16-2 domination of the second quarter for a 29-9 halftime lead.
“It was a chance for us to play a lot of people (in the second half,” CCS coach Max Kralicek said. “I t hought our girls played really good defense. “They (Lady Rams) had a little trouble with our half-court trap.”
Jennifer Schaap scored 18 points and Jocelyn Swann 15 for CCS. Portales was led by Shandi Walker with nine points.
