Business Digest: Holiday Inn Express going up in Clovis

A Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites is planned to open in Clovis during the fourth quarter this year, according to a company spokesperson.

InterContinental Hotels Group’s Monica Smith said the Clovis hotel will have 100 rooms, including suites.

The hotel will be located on the east side of North Prince Street in the vicinity of the Fairfield Inn and Suites and La Quinta Suites.

Holiday Inn Express is owned by InterContinental Hotels Group of the United Kingdom, and was launched in 1991 in the United States, according to the InterContinental Hotels Web site. Holiday Inn Express is one of the fastest growing hotel brands, opening an average of two hotels a week, the Web site reads.

Portales’ Vanessa Sumner joins Genex
Vanessa Sumner of Portales has joined Genex Cooperative of Shawano, Wis., as a breeding program specialist, according to a press release from the dairy and beef cattle genetics company.

She joins the Genex field force in New Mexico providing cattle reproductive services including heat detection, synchronization protocol management, artificial insemination, and data input and analysis, the release reads. Sumner primarily offers services to dairy producers in Roosevelt County, according to Genex spokeswoman Jenny Bjelland.

Sumner completed a two-week training program in Shawano, the release reads.

Business Day set in Santa Fe Jan. 30
The Association of Commerce & Industry of New Mexico, New Mexico Chamber of Commerce Executives Association, Tourism Association of New Mexico and other business organizations are sponsoring Business Day in Santa Fe Jan. 30, according to an ACI news release.

The program will afford business leaders the opportunity to discuss business issues with the state’s legislative and administrative leaders, according to a brochure for the event.

Gov. Bill Richardson and legislative leaders of both political parties are scheduled to speak.

A reception Jan. 29 includes exhibits by local Chambers of Commerce across the state.

Cost is $40 for Business Day and $25 for the reception. Register by Jan. 25 by sending a check payable to ACI to P.O. Box 9706, Albuquerque, NM 87119-9706.
