The deadline to purchase tickets for the annual Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce Banquet is 5 p.m. today.
The banquet, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the Clovis Civic Center, is the first official 2007 centennial event for the 100-year anniversary of Clovis.
Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ernie Kos said holding the event at the new civic center is a dream come true.
“We (Chamber of Commerce) have been a strong proponent over the years for this facility (Clovis Civic Center),” Kos said. “So, it is really cool and I am extremely proud to be having the banquet at our own civic center.”
Kos said the annual banquet, which is semi-formal, is an opportunity for attendees to “get dressed up” and enjoy good food — including cheese produced by Southwest Cheese, ribeye steaks and exquisite desserts.
“I am looking forward to the fine food prepared by the wonderful chef at the civic center,” she said.
The theme for this year’s event is “There’s Strength in Numbers.” Kos said the theme not only represents Clovis’ 100th anniversary, but also symbolizes the awesome number of residents who pulled together to save Cannon Air Force Base during the Base Realignment and Closure Committee months.
The festivities will begin with a reception honoring the Chamber’s past presidents. A dinner and dance will follow with The Fun Brothers providing entertainment.
According to a Chamber of Commerce press release, several annual awards will be presented during the event — including the 2006 Citizen of the Year, 2006 Volunteer of the Year, 2006 Business of the Year and the 2006 Heart Award.
Ray Mondragon, chairman for the Clovis centennial celebration, said he plans to read a letter from the New Mexico congressional delegation congratulating the city of Clovis on its 100th anniversary.
“I’m looking forward to it (banquet),” Mondragon said. “It’s great because we’ve (Clovis) made history.”
Tickets can be purchased by calling 763-3435 or by stopping by the Chamber of Commerce office located at 105 E. Grand Ave.
Tickets are $35 each or $350 per table.
