TAOS — The Clovis High girls swimming team piled up 469 points to capture first place in a triangular swimming meet on Saturday.

Taos won the boys division of the meet with 272 points, just two more than the Wildcats. Monte del Sol was the third team in the meet.

“We swam very well today; we had a good meet,” CHS swimming coach Vincent DeMaio said. “Our times today were very good.”

The Lady Wildcats captured seven wins in the meet, with Katelyn Jeffs winning the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Claire Simpson, Amber Espinoza and Portia Gibbons were also individual winners while Clovis also won the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

The boys won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. They also had three individual second-place finishes, two by miles Ware and one by Nick DeMaio.

Coach DeMaio said his squads have already qualified seven events for state competition in February, including Ware in three events. “It’s certainly our best start ever,” he said of the three-year-old program.
