Monette sparks Hounds to win over Tabor

WARRENSBURG, Mo. — Senior forward Mikal Monette compiled his second consecutive double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds as Eastern New Mexico University’s men rolled past Tabor (Kan.) College 78-56 on Friday in Central Missouri’s Thanksgiving Classic.

Monette sparked a 15-1 run that snapped an early 9-9 tie and gave the Greyhounds control of the game. The Bluejays (1-5) rallied to make it 26-25 with just under seven minutes left in the half, but they managed only one more field goal the rest of the period as ENMU rebuilt its lead to 38-27 at the break.

The Hounds (2-2) take on the host Mules, ranked 17th in NCAA Division II, in a 6 p.m. (MST) tipoff today.

Tristan Largent added 17 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Hounds, while guards Stephen Wilson and Kevin Davis came off the bench to add 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Andy Brubacher had four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points for Tabor, while Greg Munroe added 15 points.

Monette’s dunk a minute into the second half gave Eastern a 13-point lead and the Bluejays never got the margin under double figures the rest of the way.

The Hounds shot 67 percent from the field in the first half (16-of-24) and finished at 49 percent for the game. Monette went 10-of-15 from the field, while Wilson was 6-of-10 and Davis 5-of-6.
