Soldiers welcomed home


A parade and ceremony are being held today in Rio Rancho to welcome soldiers returning to New Mexico from Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar and Washington, D.C., according to a press release from the New Mexico National Guard.

The parade begins a 2 p.m. at the Sports Complex on High Resort, followed by the ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Performing Arts Center.

The 150 returning New Mexico National Guard members served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Noble Eagle, the release states.

One airman is serving in Iraq and several soldiers in Kosovo, but all of the New Mexico National Guard soldiers are expected to be home by Christmas, according to the statement.
