Religion digest: Religious author to sign books

By Tonya Fennell: CNJ staff writer

Cynthia Davis, author of the “Footprints from the Bible” series, will sign copies of her books Dec. 9 at The Masters Centre, 810 E. 21st St.

The signing will be from 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m.

Davis’ latest release is titled “Rahab’s Redemption.” Earlier titles include “I, Joseph” and “Beloved Leah.”

“Rahab’s Redemption” is historical fiction based on the Bible where Davis takes the reader into the world of Jericho and Canaan near the end of the second millennium.
Davis said her books speak to all people because the people in the Bible were not perfect.

“They had the same fears and desires that we still deal with,” she said. “By entering their lives, we can learn something about our own journey.”

Church rings in handbell festival
The 14th annual Eastern New Mexico Fall Handbell Festival will be held Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Portales.

The closing concert, which is open to the public, will begin at 3 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary at 200 S. Avenue C.

Massed ringing by the choirs as well as solo music will be performed with holiday, folk, sacred and classical music selections being played.

Admission is free but an offering will be taken.

Guest director Tammy Waldrop of Houston will conduct the festival choir.

Clovis High School choir director Brian Uerling will accompany the massed handbell choir on organ for two numbers. Uerling will also play an organ solo.

Ten handbell choirs will be represented in this year’s festival including those from Clovis, Portales, Lovington and Tucumcari.
