Lady Chaps defeat Zias in four games

LUBBOCK — Mike Maguire’s 20-year tenure as Eastern New Mexico University’s volleyball coach went out quietly on Tuesday night.

The Zias finished the season on a 15-match losing streak, falling to Lubbock Christian 30-14, 30-20, 29-31, 30-19.

The Lady Chaps (18-19) jumped in front early in each of the three games they won and never looked back. ENMU (6-27) put together a 5-0 run late in Game 2 to regain some momentum and carried it over into the next game.

Ashley Dyer led four Lubbock Christian players in double figures in kills with 18, and she added nine total blocks, including three solos. Kelsey Odell added 16 kills and 18 digs for the Lady Chaps.

ENMU got 17 kills and 17 digs from junior outside hitter Jessie Macknicki. Sophomore outside hitter Vanessa Wilcox also recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.

Maguire finished his ENMU career with 392 wins. Counting one season at Chadron State, he has 407 career victories.
