HOBBS — Clovis High dominated varsity competition in Thursday’s Hobbs Invitational cross country meet, sweeping easily to both team titles.
The CHS girls put all six of their runners in the top nine and finished with 17 points to 40 for the runnerup Lady Eagles. On the boys’ side, Clovis finished with 28 points to 44 for Hobbs and had six of the top 11 runners.
Sophomore Caitlin Waters led the way for the Lady Wildcats, covering the three-mile race in 19 minutes, 6 seconds for a 42-second margin over teammate Michelle Schenck. The top four runners were from Clovis, with Nicole Johnson finishing third and Callie Bunch fourth.
For the boys, senior James Chavez was second in a time of 17:19. Hobbs’ Jacob Lucano won the race easily with a time of 16:43.
Clovis ends its regular season next Thursday in the Ruidoso Invitational. District 4-5A competition is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Carlsbad.
