Craft store to close doors

Ben Franklin Crafts in Hilltop Plaza Shopping Center is closing, according store owner Jerry Hailey.

Hailey would not a give a time frame for the closing of the store.

Hailey said he decided to close the store because his lease is expiring and business has been slow in recent years.

For 17 years, the store has provided craft supplies and other items in Clovis, Hailey said. The arrival of other chain stores in Clovis and a period of uncertainty about the fate of Cannon Air Force Base hurt business, Hailey said.

Discounts are already available at the store, according to Hailey. Christmas and Halloween items are 60 percent off and regular merchandise is 20 percent off.

Various discounts will be offered at the store “until the day we close,” Hailey said.

Ben Franklin Crafts stores are part of the largest family of independently owned retail stores in the nation, according to the Ben Franklin Crafts Web site.
