Flora Mae Magness, 93, of Farwell died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Farwell Convalescent Center.
She was born April 8, 1913, in Conway, Ark., to T. F. and Minnie Wyatt Wortham.
As a teen she moved with her family to McAllen, Texas, where she graduated from high school. In 1933, she married Joe Willis Magness. They moved to Parmer County and started farming in the Oklahoma Lane area, later moving south of Farwell where they lived until moving into the city of Farwell around 1960.
Family members said she was an avid gardener and loved working in her yard. They said she also spent many hours pursuing her favorite hobby — hunting Indian arrowheads. She derived much joy from entertaining her grandchildren with picnics, overnight visits, shopping trips and playing all sorts of games, according to family members.
She was a member of Hamlin Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include her sons, Ted Magness (and wife, June) of Farwell and Fred Magness (Susan) of Ventura, Calif.; daughter, Jo Elaine Lockney (Clair) of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Gary Johnson will officiate services with Rev. Scott Spitsberg assisting.
Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Memorial Cemetery in Farwell.
