Plateau awards more than $38,000 in scholarships
More than $38,000 in educational scholarships were awarded to New Mexico high school seniors through the ENMR-Plateau Telecommunications Education Foundation last month, according to an ENMR press release. Local winners are as follows:
• Kelsey Wymore of Clovis High School
• Colten Grau of Grady High School
• Patrick Burns of Texico High School
• Lori Richardson of Texico High School
Drop-off sites for illiteracy donations on CCC campus
The Alpha Tau Nu Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Clovis Community College is participating in Project Graduation, a national service program that supports the efforts of community-based organizations to eliminate hunger and illiteracy.
Donation drop-off sites for books and canned goods will be positioned at the Clovis Community College campus at 417 Schepps Boulevard in following locations: CCC Commons, TRIO Office, Phase V office and the library.
Following the May 12 CCC graduation ceremony, books and canned goods will be given to local literacy and hunger relief agencies. For information on Project Graduation, visit www.projectgraduation.org.
Local takes third place at New Mexico Science Fair
Kelsie Schwartz of Mesa Elementary took third place in the recent New Mexico Science Fair. She competed with 24 other students in the junior division of botany.
ENMU education instructor to retire in early July
Bill Gaedke, instructor of Education Foundations at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, will retire effective July 1. He has served the college since 1994, according to an ENMU press release.
Gaedke, 74, has plans to be a student teacher supervisor in the greater Clovis area, as well as renew his track and field hobbies, the release said.
GED recognition ceremony Thursday at CCC Town Hall
Students who have passed the 2005 GED exam may participate in the GED recognition ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Town Hall on the Clovis Community College campus, according to a news release from the college.
Graduates should confirm participation and number of people attending by calling Jennifer Rodriguez at 769-4097 by 4 p.m. today.
• The James Bickley Elementary 58th Annual May Day Program will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the James Bickley front lawn.
• Parkview Elementary School will perform it fall music program at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Parkview gym.
