Clovis girls seventh, boys eighth in Ruidoso

There is no question who the best teams at the Leroy Gooch Invitational were.

The Mayfield boys won by 20 strokes and the Roswell Goddard girls won by 41 strokes in the 4A-5A division Tuesday at Ruidoso.

The Clovis boys finished eighth, and the girls finished seventh.

Jordan Moore shot a 161 for the Wildcats, 13 shots back of the winner, Mayfield’s Ray Lopez.

The Lady Cats were led by Amanda Estes with 201, good for a 23rd-place tie. Goddard’s Kayla Gonzales took the tournament, shooting a 173.

In the 1A-3A division, Mollie Peterson finished second, two shots off the leader, to lead Clovis Christian to a fourth-place finish.

The Ruidoso girls finished first as a team, and Socorro’s Kayla Cline won the tournament with a 178.

The Portales Rams took the 1A-3A boys crown, and Mesilla Valley’s Kevin Merhege shot a 156 to win the tournament by one stroke over Portales’ Donavin Sanchez.
