Reporter’s notebook: Dog rescues family

In Arabic, “obed” means worship, but to the Reid family, Obed is synonymous with hero.

Obed is a 1-year-old, blonde cocker spaniel acquired by Clovis resident Christy Reid from friends who were relocating.

Reid said she awoke last Thursday night to the sound of her newly acquired dog urgently barking. Arising to investigate why the young canine had disturbed her slumber, Reid said she was shocked to find the wall of her toddler’s bedroom engulfed in flames.

“He (Obed) saved my family’s life,” Reid said. “He’s a real hero.”
