Mildred “Millie” Mills, 79, of Logan, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari.
Born May 19, 1926 in Claude to Joseph Eugene and Eleanor Lena Bentley Tucker, she graduated from Pleasant Hill High School where she was class valedictorian. She lived most of her life in Curry County. She married Marvin Mills on Feb. 14, 1958, in Clovis. She was a school bus driver for 18 years, worked as a beautician for four years and helped her husband at the family-owned Furniture Mart.
She and her husband moved to Logan after retirement.
Family members said she loved people, dancing and playing “42,” and she treated school children on the bus as if they were her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Angelia Porter on March 26, 1953; three brothers, and five sisters.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Ernie Porter of Logan, Doyle Porter of Clovis and Robert E. Mills of Albuquerque; a daughter, Chris Porter Marin (and husband, Garry) of Logan; a brother, Richard Tucker of Plainview, Texas; a sister, Lorraine Horton of Clovis; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herbert Bergstrom will officiate services.
Burial is at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gayland, Phillip, Desmond and Eddy Griggs, Johnny Jones, Rex Mills and Wesley Payne.
Honorary pallbearers will be all her school bus kids.
The family will be at 1420 Eastridge in Clovis before and after services.
Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home.
