Delbert “Del” Webb, 82, of Portales, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock.
He was born July 6, 1923, to Eva and Joe Webb in Pearl, Texas, where he grew up. He graduated from Tahoka High School and joined the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he married Margaret Reagan in Lubbock on March 15, 1946.
He and his wife moved to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he attended watchmaking and jewelry school. In late 1949, the couple moved to Portales, and he went to work at Clint Smith Jewelry Store. In 1958, he and his wife purchased the business and renamed it Del Webb Jewelry, which they operated until their retirement in 1991. He continued doing clock repair from his home until recently. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Hubert and Jody Webb; a sister, Lona South; a daughter, Beverly Blossom, who died Nov. 8, 1999, and his wife, who died Oct. 19, 2004.
He is survived by a son, Dennis Webb (and wife, Beverly) of Portales; six grandchildren, Derry Webb (Tisha) of Socorro, Danny Webb of Roswell, Kristen Mitchell (Charles) of Canyon, Texas, Chad Blossom (Tania) of Trinity, N.C., Jade Blossom of Highpoint, N.C., and Shiloh Valdez (Adrian) of Lubbock; seven great-grandchildren, Brittani and Devan Webb, Zachary and Keelie Mitchell, Tyler and McKenzie Blossom, and Avree Valdez; and a sister, Lera Roedler of Lubbock.
Dr. Herbert Bergstrom will officiate services. Burial will take place at Portales Cemetery.
Derry and Danny Webb, Chad and Jade Blossom, Charles Mitchell and Adrian Valdez will serve as pallbearers.
