Maxine Young-Clifton, 78, of Portales, died Monday, March 13, 2006, at her home.
Born June 6, 1927, in Manter, Kan., to Iva and John Owens, she grew up in Portales where she attended school. She worked as a waitress for several years and later as a housekeeper for Eastern New Mexico University in Portales and as a clerk for Parkway Grocery. Family members said she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed traveling, shopping, gardening and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Woodrow “W.D.” Clifton of Portales; her daughter, Patsy Ann Davenport (and husband Walt) of Roswell; three grandchildren, Dianna Novak and Terresa Hale (Tim), both of Roswell, and Joe Balestri (Andrea) of Albuquerque; four great-grandchildren, Kambrea Novak, Cody and Heather McCrary, all of Roswell, and Lucian Balestri of Albuquerque; two great-great-grandchildren, Abbigaylle and Isabelle McCrary, both of Roswell; four brothers, William Owens (Dorothy) of Carlsbad, Kenneth Owens of Carlsbad, Marion Owens (Velma) of Lubbock, and Sherman Owens of Columbia Heights, Minn., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Winston Berry will officiate services. Burial will take place at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert, Rick, Mike and Bruce Owens, Dale Moorman and Joe Balestri.
Family members and friends will be honorary pallbearers.
