RICHARDSON, Texas — Junior guard Tristan Largent of Martinsburg, W.Va., and senior post Tiana Bryant of Roswell represented Eastern New Mexico University as first-team choices in All-Lone Star Conference South Division selections, announced Monday by the LSC office.
In addition, ENMU’s Joshua Jackson of Madison, Wis., was the men’s freshman of the year selection in the South, while junior forward Mikal Monette of Rio Rancho for the men and junior guard Heather Brown of Hereford for the women were named to the South’s honorable mention lists.
Largent, a tranfer from Garrett (Md.) Community College, led ENMU’s men (12-16, 6-6 South) in scoring (13.0 ppg) and assists (94) and was the only player on the team to start every game. He shot 45 percent from the field, including 42 percent on 3-pointers, and added three rebounds a contest.
Monette, a transfer from the University of New Mexico, missed the Greyhounds’ final three games with a knee injury. He was second behind Largent in scoring (12.0 ppg) while leading the team in field goal shooting at 53 percent and in rebounding with seven per game, the latter good for eighth in the LSC.
Jackson averaged 8.4 points, shooting 42 percent from the field and 41 percent on 3-pointers. He led the team in free throw shooting at 80 percent, placing him eighth in that category in the league.
Bryant, who transferred from UNM in 2004, emerged as one of the top women’s players in the LSC this season. She ranked second in the league in scoring (18.5 ppg), third in steals (73) and sixth in rebounding (8.4 rpg), while shooting 45 percent from the floor and 37 percent on 3-pointers.
Brown averaged 12.9 points, shooting 40 percent from 3-point distance. She led the Zias (11-17, 3-11) in free throw shooting (84 percent, second in the league) and assists (87).
