Mrs. Janie Lou Deen, 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006, at Sunset Villa in Roswell.
She was born Oct. 16, 1921, in Lubbock to Rosa Lorina and Joseph Arthur Akens.
Her family moved to the Portales area when she was young. She married C.B. Waide in 1938. He died in 1947. She married Ulis Deen on July 21, 1950, in Quemada.
For several years they lived in Tucumcari, and then in 1969 moved to Black, Texas, where she became the postmaster. In 1986, shortly after the death of her second husband, she moved to Hamlin, Texas, where he son was living. She moved to Hobbs with his family in 1992. The family moved her to Sunset Villa in Roswell in 2003.
When she was in better health she enjoyed crocheting, doing ceramics, oil painting, growing roses and gardening vegetables, family members said. The said she always had a smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Halford Akens; two sisters, Wilma Sparks, and Clovie Martin; and by her husbands.
She is survived by her three sons, James Waide (and wife, Claudia) of Roswell; C.B. Waide (Rosemary) of Gunnison, Colo.; and Larry Deen (Karen) of Hobbs; three daughters, Loretta Armstrong (Don) of San Diego, Calif., Sylvia Allen (Ardist) of Roswell and Connie Allen (Henry) of Carlsbad; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Roland Akens of Clovis.
The Rev. Jeff Messer will officiate services.
Honorary pallbearers will be Craig, Brian and Chad Waide, Shawn, Cody and Todd Allen, Ron Karr, Dusty, A.J. and Briar Deen.
The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
