J. D. Peters Jr., 87, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, in Lubbock.
He was born to John and Beatrice Peters on Nov. 5, 1918, in Carnegie, Okla., and moved to this area with his family in 1929. He graduated from high school at Farwell in 1935. He entered the U.S. Army in March 1941. He married Verna Miller on July 21, 1944, in Clovis. He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad in 1980. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Clovis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three sisters; Bessie Corbin, Inez White and Mimi Doose.
He is survived by one son, John V. (and wife JoLynn) Peters of Pueblo, Colo.; one daughter, Janet D. (Jerry) Oldham of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Jeff (Anna) Peters, of Pueblo West, Colo., Janelle (Travis) Peters Murphy of La Junta, Colo., Jarod (Sarah) Oldham, of Plano, Texas and Janae (Larry) Oldham Allen of Lubbock; two great-grandchildren, Kyndal and Keaton Murphy of La Junta, Colo.; one sister, Dorothy Scarborough of Prescott Ariz.; two brothers-in-law, Kenny Miller of Clovis and Clinton Harden of Clovis and many nieces and nephews.
Bobby Jack Stewart will officiate services.
