Everett Glenn Givens, 88, of Yuma, Ariz., died Friday, Nov. 18, 2005, at La Mesa Rehabilitation Center in Yuma, Ariz.
He was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Arch.
He received his bachelor’s degree from New Mexico State University and his master’s degree from Arizona State University.
He served in the Army Air Corp. in World War II, obtaining the rank of 1st lieutenant. He married Wilda in 1977 and retired from Yuma School District as the assistant superintendent in 1978.
He was a member of the Elks, American Legion Post, and First United Methodist Church in Yuma, Ariz.
Family members said he was a kind, gentle soul who never knew a stranger, loved children, could put a smile on your face with a good joke and loved telling stories about his military tour of duty in Italy.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Joan Burt (and husband, Steve); a son, Greg Givens (Jenifer); a stepdaughter, Jamie Penny (Jeff); a stepson, Don Gray; three sisters, Neva Sanders (Elbert) of Clovis, Maurie Ponder of Marion, Ill., and Laura Watts of Farmington; three grandsons, James (Tamara), Jeremy (Lisa) and Justin Couball (Jennifer); four step-granddaughters, Nicole, Veronica, Lyndsey and Rebeka; his wife’s grandchildren, Lara, Ross, Liam, Colin and Emily; four great-grandsons, Kyle, Jake, Seth and Sam; and numerous family and friends.
Burial took place at Desert Lawn Cemetery in Yuma.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
