HOBBS — Behind good pitching and senior infielder Jessica Nocas’ 7-for-9 day, Eastern New Mexico University swept the College of the Southwest 4-0 and 10-2 Wednesday in a softball doubleheader.

“I think we played well, although we can play better,” ENMU coach Armando Quiroz said. “For whatever reason, we came out a little flat.”

In the first game, senior Rosemary Moreno struck out seven in a complete game shutout to propel the Zias (4-3) to a win.
Nocas was Eastern’s offensive catalyst, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

In the second game, Nocas stayed hot, going 4-for-5 with a single, two doubles, and a grand slam.

“She said it was the first grand slam she’s ever hit on any level,” Quiroz said.

Junior outfielder Kristina Goodman went 4-for-7 from the leadoff spot for the day.

Quiroz said the Zias played well in the field.

“We really buckled down and played good defense,” Quiroz said. “And our pitching has been very good so far, I’m really pleased.”
