Game of the night
The Bovina Fillies forced a one-game playoff for the Texas District 3-1A girls No. 2 playoff berth on Tuesday night with a 51-38 victory over the Lady Blue in Bovina.

Jessica Bachicha, a 5-7 junior forward, led a balanced attack for Bovina (18-10, 5-3) with 15 points.

The teams will meet at 7 p.m. (MST) at Clovis High’s Rock Staubus Gym on Saturday. The winner advances to the 1A playoffs, while the loser will see its season end.

Fillies coach Tony Epps said no one could recall the last time the Fillies had beaten their Parmer County rivals.

“We played consistently for all four quarters,” Epps said. “We took care of the ball. In the second half, (with the lead) we tried to slow the game down.”

Junior forward Britton Barrett led all scorers with 17 points for the Lady Blue (13-14, 5-3), but only four players scored for Farwell.

Top performances
Boys
* Senior guard Ty Gast scored 16 points and senior post Colton Sudderth added 13 as Farwell’s boys defeated Bovina 56-45. Senior Michael Ortiz led all scorers with 17 for the Mustangs.

* Arsenio Geter had 17 points and Trevor Turnbow added 13 as Muleshoe stayed alive for a playoff berth out of Texas District 2-3A by beating Lubbock Cooper 56-46 in Muleshoe. The Mules (14-13, 4-3 district) are assured of a play-in game next week, but can lock up a postseason berth by beating Littlefield at home in Friday’s regular-season finale.

Girls
* Brandi Wood
led three Muleshoe players in double figures with 14 points, but the Lady Mules lost their District 2-3A and regular-season finale at home to Lubbock Cooper 56-52 despite leading most of the way. Muleshoe (14-16, 4-4 district) has already clinched a postseason berth, and coach Shana Simms said the Lady Mules will face either Perryton or Dalhart in a first-round game on Tuesday at Tascosa High School in Amarillo.
