Ala Eck, 91, of Portales died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at her residence.
She was born March 4, 1914, in Amarillo to Zeddie and J.B. Turner. She attended school in Portales. She married Delos E. Eck in November 1929. The couple worked together they lived and worked in West Texas and eastern New Mexico for several years. During World War II, they moved to Richmond, Calif., where they worked together in the shipyards. Following the war, they returned to New Mexico where they farmed and ranched in Elida from 1945 to 1952. They also lived in Fremont, Calif.
Following her husband’s retirement, they moved back to New Mexico.
She had spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and devoted herself to her family, family members said.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: P.F., Etzel and Claude Turner, who died as an infant; three sisters: Veta Smart, Nula Bartholomew and Alta Modrall; and her husband, who died Oct. 2, 1977.
She is survived by a daughter, Dana Sharon Naito (and husband, Michael) of San Jose, Calif., a granddaughter, Denice Christine Ortega; and a great-granddaughter, Destiny Christine Ortega.
Marlin Poynor will officiate services.
