Euel Luce, 71, of Portales, died Oct. 7, 2005, at the Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales.
He was born May 15, 1934 in Clovis to Fern and J. W. Luce.
He moved with his family to Floyd in 1947, graduated from Floyd High School in 1951, married Kay Buzzard on Nov. 25, 1951, and divorced in 1979. From 1952, he farmed in Hereford, Texas. From 1957, he farmed in Floyd. In 1963, he moved his family to Portales and worked for Swift and Co. until the early 1980s. In the past 19 years he was a mail contractor, carrying mail between Clovis and Portales.
Family members say he worked on his small farm and helped neighbors with their farming, enjoyed dances and gospel singing, and although he was a Baptist, often worshiped at other churches in the area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Luce (and wife, Rhonda) of Portales and Bryan Luce (Carrol) of Clovis; two daughters, Susan Looney (Dink) and Sally Ruiz, all of Portales; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a stepmother, Opal Luce of Portales; four brothers, Nolan Luce of Phoenix, Az., Joe W. Luce of Portales, Jack Luce of Caprock and Ed Luce of Tulsa, Okla.; three stepbrothers, F. H. Smith of Dallas, Elmo Smith of Sacramento, Ca., and the Rev. Hayden Smith of Carrizozo; three sisters, Darlene Richardson of Hereford, Texas, Charlene Seales of Portales and Norma Faye Griffin of Midland, Texas; several aunts and uncles; numerous young people who considered him their grandfather, and the Floyd High School class of 1951.
The Rev. Kenneth Dunsworth will officiate at the services.
Pallbearers are Bryan Lee Luce, Bobby Mack Luce, Tyler Dan Luce, Dearil Looney, Jimmie Looney, Michael Looney and Sam Allan Ruiz.
Honorary pallbearers are the members of Floyd High School Class of 1951.
