Leona Mitzelfelt, 96, of Clovis, died Oct. 4, 2005, at her home in Clovis. She was a retired registered nurse.
She was born Jan. 29, 1909, in Middlegrove, Ill., to Ora and Isabella Wilson Morse.
As a young girl, she left home to study nursing in Orlando, Fla. After graduating in 1931, she specialized in individual care. She married A.R. Mitzelfelt on March 13, 1933, in Moline, Ill. They moved to Lariat to farm. In 1945, they moved to Clovis and she began nursing again at Clovis Memorial Hospital. She was the night supervisor for more than 20 years. She also worked at Retirement Ranch and Golden Age for 15 years.
Family members said she never lost her love for nursing and she will be remembered for her dedication and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Robert Morse; and a daughter, Geraldine Mitzelfelt.
Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Patton of Clovis; a son, Robert Mitzelfelt (and wife, Mary Lee) of Farwell; grandchildren, Russell and Deborah Patton of Clovis, Ginny and Rick Botello of Wellington, Fla., and Julie Mitzelfelt of Houston, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Geary Patton of Baltimore, Md., Madalyn Botello and Lucas Botello of Wellington, Fla., and Cory Russell of Clovis.
Paul Tankersley will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Hospice.
