R.B. (Junior) Hardin Jr., 75, Portales died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
He was born Dec. 26, 1929, in Pleasant Hill to Minnie and R.B. Hardin. He graduated from Portales High School in 1948. He married Nell Burns on April 8, 1950, in Portales. For several years starting in the early 1950s he worked in the oil fields. He returned to the farm at Arch in 1959, where he lived out the remainder of his life. He was supportive of the FFA program and was chosen as State FFA Chapter Farmer in 1977. He was a member of the Arch Baptist Church.
Family members said he was a devoted family man who enjoyed old music, dancing and was a “die hard” Cowboys fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jo Lane; lifelong friends Wayne Wallace and Jerry Loyd Magness; and his mother and father-in-law.
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Wayne Hardin (and wife, Carol), Don Hardin (Brenda) and Richard Hardin (Janice), all of Portales and Bo Hardin (Judy) of Ruidoso; a nephew, Russ Lane of Austin, Texas; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Hardin (Bonnie) of Combine, Texas, and Delbert Hardin of Dallas; an aunt, Viola Bales of Portales; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
The Rev. Walter Huber will officiate services.
Burial will follow Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bart Bronniman, Tommy Hardin, Justin Hardin, Carlos Sotelo, Todd Ulses, Jeff Buettner, Chris Gutierrez, Justin Mignard, Ronny Miller, Brien Gutierrez, Jared Hardin, Pvt. 1st Class John Gutierrez, Kevin Hardin, Travis Hardin, Nick Hardin and Jeremy Neal.
Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters and the members of the Portales High School Class of 1948.
