Denton, William T.

William Travis “W.T.” “Bill” Denton, 87, of Logan, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.

He was born Nov. 8, 1917 to Thomas and Sally Kerbo Denton in Mangum, Okla. After completing eighth grade in Mangum in the 1930′s, he helped on the family farm, and then worked in fruit orchards and vegetable fields in central California. He was drafted into the Army in 1940. On Oct. 14, 1941, he married Easter Charlene Morris. He was in the Aleutian Islands from 1942 until the end of the war and earned the Bronze Star and other medals. He returned to his family in Los Angeles and trained under the GI Bill as a pipe fitter and master plumber. In 1962, his family moved to Clovis. He opened W.T. Denton Plumbing and Heating until he retired in 1983 and moved to Logan, where he opened a bait shop, The Minnow Ranch.

Family members say he enjoyed life to the fullest, and was a successful businessman.

He was a member of the Clovis Elks Lodge, the local Veteran’s Association, and the Logan Assembly of God Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Sally; wife Charlene; brother, James Denton; and two sisters, Irene Spencer and Annabelle Madewell.

He is survived by two sons, William Travis Denton Jr. (and wife, Jan) and James Curtis Denton (Shelley), all of Clovis; two daughters, Sheila Graf (Gary) of Lewis, Colo., and Judy Williams of Tucson; sister, Lola Mae Ewing of Modesto, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, Laura Graf of Dolores, Colo., Terrill Graf (Terra) of Pleasant View, Colo., Eric Graf (Bethany) of Dolores, Colo., Gary Denton (Donita) of Clovis, Tami Shilling (Jason) of Farwell, Amy Marshall (Kirk) of Clovis, Krista Wealick (Matt) of British Columbia, Canada, Ryan, Chase, and Brooke Denton of Clovis, Shad Williams (Jennifer) and Matthew Williams of Tucson, and Brian Williams of Long Beach, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family members will gather at 1915 Enloe, Clovis, and at 1702 Fairway Terrace in Clovis.

The Revs. Don Heddin and Dick Ross will officiate at services. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005 at Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.

Pallbearers will be Gary, Ryan and Chase Denton, Matthew, Shad and Brian Williams, and Terrill and Eric Graf.

Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren and employees of W.T. Denton Mech.
