Ten busy hands and 10 little feet surround Sylvia Bean on a daily basis.
As director and teacher of Immanuel Lutheran Preschool of Clovis, Bean works with five students ranging in age from 3 to 5. She said the best part of her job as a preschool teacher is watching their eyes light up when they understand.
“When something they have learned becomes a part of them, it is the greatest things,” Bean said.
Bean was recently awarded the Lutheran Early Childhood Director of the Year Award.
According to an Immanuel Lutheran Church press release, this is a prestigious award which comes from the School of Ministry Committee in association with the Professional Church Workers Conference of the Rocky Mountain District of the Lutheran Church. The award was presented at the annual conference held last week in Breckenridge, Colo.
She received a framed certificate and an all-expense paid trip to the April 2008 Lutheran Education Association Convocation to be held in Minneapolis, Minn.
“It is a great honor to be chosen,” said Bean, who has been director of the school since 1997.
