Samplings of recent calls received by Clovis-area law enforcement officers, according to reports:

Officers responded Aug. 25 to a call from the 800 block of Meriwether reporting a burglary in progress.

Investigating officers found a man in a nearby alley, emanating a strong odor of alcohol, and detained him for questioning.

They found several missing items from the caller’s shed in the alley. Other missing items were found in the man’s possession.

Charges of burglary, larceny, criminal damage and concealing of identity were pending.

Officers responded Aug. 25 to a call regarding cigarettes stolen from a gas station in the 700 block of East First St.

An employee showed the police officers a broken sliding glass window near the cigarette display area.

The clerk estimated 230 packages of cigarettes were missing, and provided the police with surveillance tapes.

Officers responded Aug. 26 to a female caller whose car sustained gunshot damage.

The investigating officers found three bullet holes in the passenger side front door of her vehicle.

She told police she was driving between Thornton Street and the 900 block of Ross St. when two vehicles passed her — a gray SUV and a white Honda. The two drivers appeared to be arguing.

She said the SUV pulled up to the Honda and she heard gunshots. She drove home and called the police.

Officers responded Aug. 27 to a call reporting criminal damage to a vehicle in the 1300 block of Ross St.

The caller told investigating police officers he was driving near the high school on East 21st St. when he heard a gunshot and felt something hit his car.

He drove home and called the police.

The police officers found a small hole, possibly from a small-caliber bullet, in the rear passenger door. The estimated cost of repair is $1,000.
