Mr. Jerrold Dwain Thompson, 81, of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Loveless Hospital in Albuquerque.
He was born on May 30 1924, in Grandfield, Okla., to Benjamin Franklin “Frank” and Sara Elizabeth “Sadie” Houston Thompson.
His family moved to a farm in the Floyd community when he was a year old. He attended Floyd School until the beginning of World War II, when he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Idaho. He married Betty Jean Wakefield on Nov. 3, 1944. He spent several years working in the oil fields and later moved to Albuquerque, where he worked for an insurance company and then as a security guard.
Family members said he enjoyed playing “42” and other games and was an avid sports fan, especially baseball and football.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and his wife.
Survivors include two sons, Davie George Thompson (and wife, Maria) of Chicago and Roger Dwain Thompson (Judi) of Houston; a daughter, Sharon Faison (Jeff) of Coaldell, Col.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Deward F. Thompson (June); and three sisters, Madelyn McAlister (Gilbert), Marie Littlejohn (Melvin) and JoAnn Barger.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Albuquerque.
Arrangements are by French Mortuary of Albuquerque.
