Sam Harlan Sparks, 81, of Melrose, died Monday, July 25, 2005, in Clovis.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1924, in the Perry community to Samuel Elijah and Leta Clemens Sparks.
Family members said he was a gentleman farmer with a passion for horses, old trucks, good friends and a spirited game of pool.
A lunch will be held in his honor at noon Thursday at the Melrose Senior Citizen’s Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Harlan Douglas Sparks.
Survivors include a sister, Kathryn Biggers of Melrose; a half-brother, Allen Sparks of Fort Sumner; his wife, Patricia E. Sparks of California; three sons, Greg Sparks of Maryland, Steven B. Sparks of Hawaii and David P. Sparks of California; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place.
Honorary pallbearers are Eldon Blackburn, Grady Bright, George “GB” Hisel, T.A. McClung, Ernie Mouser, Bruce Murphy, Neil Pruitt, Jimmie D. Smith and Clay Sumrell.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Melrose Senior Citizen’s Center or Vista Care Hospice Foundation, 2708 N. Prince Street, Clovis, New Mexico 88101.
