James W. Nutt, 75, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his home west of Portales.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1929, in Broken Bow, Okla., to Elizabeth and Robert N. Nutt.
He grew up on a family farm near Erick, Okla. He entered the Army when he was 17. During his time of service he was stationed in Panama and also in Germany. He eventually moved to California where he worked in trailer construction. Later he began working as a pipe fitter in the construction of power plants.
On Sept. 4, 1955, in Portales he was married to Lena Tivis. He continued to travel with his work until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Baptist church. Family members said he enjoyed dancing to country-western music, hunting and going to the casinos. He also collected knives. He was a member of the Eagles in Clovis, and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Vester and Johnny Wayne Nutt, and a sister, Dorothy Morris.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Dale (and wife, Sandy) Nutt of Roanoke, Texas, and James Larry Nutt of Portales; five daughters, Betty Ann (Charles) Puckett of Bellflower, Calif., Lanita (Wellman) Wallace of Lexington, Ky., Delores Miller of Lexington, Ky., Lola (James) Anderson of Portales, and Brenda (George) Whittington of Lexington, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lee Nutt and Luther Nutt both of Portales, and Charles Nutt and Robert Nutt both of Clovis.
The Rev. Pat Boone will officiate the service.
Honorary pallbearers are all family members and his friends.
