John L. Roy, 58, died Friday, July 1, 2005, at his home in Lubbock.
Roy was born on March 1, 1947, in Paducah, Texas.
He was raised in Carlsbad. He attended the Carlsbad public schools, Odessa Commercial College and NMSU, Carlsbad Branch. He married Jolene Smith Roy on June 18, 1967. He is a U.S. Army veteran. While living in Hobbs, he retired after 30 years of service to GTE. He went on to work for ENMR Telephone CO-OP in Clovis, followed by Valor Telecom in Brownfield, Texas, where he was serving as engineering and construction manager. He was an avid golfer and he also enjoyed baseball. He was a former member of Central Christian Church in Carlsbad. He was a current member of Raintree Christian Church in Lubbock.
He is preceded by his father, John Lds Roy, and two sisters, Frances Liles and Kay Roberts.
Survivors include his wife, Jolene S. Roy; one daughter, Kristi L. Abbott and husband, Marcus W. Abbott of Katy, Texas; his mother, Max Russell Goodin Roy; two granddaughters, Mackenzi Abbott and Madison Abbott; his brother, Ted M. Roy, both of Carlsbad.
Richard Cook will officiate the services.
Burial will follow at the city of Lubbock Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bradley R. Smith, Davy Smith, Gary D. Roberts, Tim Roberts, Russell Liles and Richard Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy S. Smith, Jeffery D. Smith and Marcus W. Abbott.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raintree Christian Church, 3601 Slide Rd., Lubbock, TX 79423.
