Edna Fayrene Stephens, 76, of Grand Junction, Colo., died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Mantey Heights Rehab and Care Center in Grand Junction, Colo.
She was born on March 20, 1929, in Soper, Okla., to Jeff L. and Lela Dean Hester.
She grew up and attended schools in Field. She married Henry Melvin Stephens on Dec. 21, 1948, in Portales. They lived in Clovis until they moved to Grand Junction, Colo. 40 years ago. Family members said she was a homemaker, mother, peacemaker, seamstress, dog breeder, quilter, and her passion was gardening. She was a member of the Clifton Baptist Church and the Clifton V.F.W.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Darla Carter; three brothers; two sisters; and her parents.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Charles M. Stephens (and wife, Doris); three daughters, Patricia E. Tafoya, Melva Bustos-Campos, and Betty F. Edmonds; a brother, Sonny Hester; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Chan Edmonds.
The Rev. John Foreman will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Martin Mortuary of Grand Junction, Colo.
