CASPER, Wyo. — Eastern New Mexico University sophomore Brittany Bennett and senior James Gililland were in the top 10 in their events after Monday’s first-go in the College National Finals Rodeo at the Casper Events Center.
Bennett, the day’s first competitor at 7 a.m., posted a time of 14.69 seconds in barrel racing, placing her ninth. The leader is Robin Webb of Southeastern Oklahoma, who had a time of 14.34.
The second-go in barrel racing is scheduled for today.
Gililland and partner Clayton Jackson of Tarleton State had a time of 7.3 seconds in team roping and are tied for sixth place after the first go. Jackson is the header for the team and Gililland the heeler.
Leading are Nick Pullara of Colorado State-Pueblo and Zachary Steele of Wyoming with a time of 5.4. The second go is today.
In Sunday’s first-go of bull riding, ENMU’s Dusty Higgins did not score. His second-go and third-go are scheduled for today.
In all events, there are three rounds prior to the finals this weekend.
