Archie “Short” Smelley, 92, of Clovis, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Laurel Ridge Healthcare in Clovis.
He was born on May 16, 1913, in Denton County, Texas, to Sylvester Newton and Ider Mae Jackson Smelley.
He moved to Clovis from Lubbock in 1955. He owned and operated American Metals company and worked until his retirement for Archie’s Recycling Company. Family members said he loved to fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna Mae Smelley; a son, Don Millard Smelley; three brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Merlene Neil (and husband, Bud) of Riverton, Wyo., and Archie Anderson of Chandler, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Brandie and Burlon Anderson, Brianna Henry, Nikki Trujillo, Ervin and Terri Neil, and Edna Reddon; 16 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis.
