Mr. Terrell A. Smith, 88, of Portales, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at his home.

He was born Nov. 28, 1916, northwest of Elida, to Ophelia and James Smith.

He married Louise Allen on Nov. 10, 1938, in Portales. He grew up in Elida. The family made their home in Elida until 1944, when they moved to Portales. He spent the majority of his life farming before his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Family members said he enjoyed coyote trapping, fishing, and deer hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Doyle, O’Bannon, Shirley and Noal, who died as an infant.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Alvin Smith (and wife, Mary Frances) of Portales and Wayne Smith (Juanita) of Capitan; a brother, Ted Smith of Hobbs; six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Terry Maloney will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ron Moore, Eddie, Bill, and Roy Smith, Phillip Wall and Jeremy Neal.

Honorary pallbearers are friends and neighbors.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
