Mr. Lewis Gregory, 81, of Portales, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 15, 1923, in Floyd, to Dessie and Walter Gregory.
The family moved to Roswell when he was 2 years old and to Floyd in 1935. He married Bertha Fowler on June 14, 1943, in Portales. They lived several different places before returning to Floyd where he farmed. He was a member of the Floyd Baptist Church. In 1989 they moved closer to Portales, and then in 1998 they moved to Golden Acres. He was a member of both the Floyd and Portales Senior Citizens and VFW Post 3299. Family members said he enjoyed playing dominos and fishing, but only when he couldn’t go hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Decker “Pudge” and Buck Allen Gregory; and a granddaughter, Karen Miller Elrod.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara Miller (and husband, Bud) of Portales and Janice Lee (Eddie) of Floyd; four grandchildren, Howard Miller (and fiancé, Kelly Goss), Shannon Lee (Tammy) and Shane Lee (Karla), all of Portales, and Beverly Mast (Dion) of Las Cruces; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Gregory-Sadler of Portales and Clarissa Gregory-Wilson of Williamsburg.
The Rev. Walter Huber and Scott Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Floyd Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kendel and Sam Buzard, Roy Tivis, Leon Nall, Dennis Luce, Andy Nials, Duane Lee and Brandon Fuqua.
Honorary pallbearers are his domino and coffee drinking buddies.
