Three CHS netters qualify for state

CARLSBAD — Senior Patricia Gallegos for the girls and senior Jason Goolsby and junior Adam Quintero for the boys qualified for Class 5A state individual singles and doubles competition in Saturday’s District 4-5A tourament.

Gallegos earned her third consecutive trip to state singles, winning three times to reach the finals where she lost to Sandia’s Anna Surviladze 6-2, 6-1.

Goolsby and Quintero had a first-round bye, then won twice to reach the boys doubles finals, where they lost to twins Derik and Devin Bendixsen of Carlsbad 6-1, 6-0.

“I’m very pleased the boys doubles made it; they played absolutely fabulous today,” CHS tennis coach Billie Merritt said. “Patricia had great matches too; she was just mentally tough all day long.”
