LOVINGTON — Clovis Christian junior Mollie Peterson won District 4/1-3A golf competition Tuesday at Lovington Country Club, and she took no prisoners.
Peterson, who had already qualified to represent CCS in next week’s state tournament in Grants, shot 85 for an eight-stroke margin win.
“She’s qualified (a leg for state) in every tournament she’s played in,” CCS coach Robert Boatman said of Peterson. “She’s such a hard worker and very dedicated, and she represents our school very well.”
Lovington was the girls’ team champion, by default — the Lady Wildcats had the only full team in the field.
Meantime, Portales shot 302 to take the boys’ title by one shot over rival Lovington. While the host Wildcats had three players with scores of 75 or better, Portales put all five of its players in the top 10, ranging from 75 to 78.
CCS shot 358 to finish fifth out of seven teams in the boys tournament. Sophomore Ryan Boatman led the Eagles, shooting a school-record 79 to finish just out of the top 10.
“We’re really excited about Ryan breaking the 80 mark,” Robert Boatman said of his son.
