AMARILLO — Clovis High senior Tigg Bunton nabbed the MVP award in the Golden Spread all-star basketball tournament Saturday at the West Texas A&M Event Center.

Bunton scored 26 points in the championship game as the West All-Stars topped the North squad 92-77.

In the semifinal game on Friday, Bunton scored 28 points off the bench as the West beat the East 89-82.

“It’s just a fun situation with no pressure on him. He just got to relax and play,” Clovis coach J.D. Isler said of the 6-foot-8 post.

Isler said Bunton is awaiting ACT results to see if he qualifies to play at a Division I school — New Mexico and New Mexico State have shown interest. Bunton should find out his score in three weeks. In the meantime, Isler said Bunton has been visiting a number of junior colleges.

Bunton, who averaged 20 points and eight rebounds a game this past season, will also play in the 5A North-South all-star game July 28 in Albuquerque with teammate Dominique Easterlin.
