Clovis’ Harold Burris was asked to report the best April Fools’ prank he’s witnessed. This was his response:
“My favorite is one that flourished in the Kansas City area in the l970s (and I have used it in the Clovis area since l991).
“Someone would leave a call slip on the desk of the “victim,” which indicated that he or she had been telephoned by a Mr. Baer or a Mr. Lyon. The slip requested that the call be returned.
“The telephone number listed was that of the Kansas City Zoo.
“The zoo actually installed an automatic message to answer such calls; it said:
‘“Thank you for calling the Kansas City Zoo. Because you asked to speak to Mr. (Baer or Lyon), and today is April lst, we feel that you may be the victim of an April Fools’ prank.
“‘Please visit the Kansas City Zoo often.’”
