Isaac G. Lopez Sr., 67, died Thursday, March 3, 2005.
He was born on July 7, 1937, where Lake Sumner stands today, to Maximiliano and Gregorita Lopez.
He was raised in Fort Sumner, where he graduated from high school in 1956. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961 and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He married Sally Barreras on Dec. 11, 1965, in Las Cruces. He retired as an inspector for the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Brittani Alexandra.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Alice Carabajal (and life partner, Danny Morales), Anna Maria Lopez and Elizabeth Warpula (Todd), all of Las Cruces; two sons, Isaac B. Lopez II (Susan Wilkinson) of Las Cruces and Jose “Joe” Felis Lopez (Debbie) of Denver; eight sisters, Trudy Preece, Yolanda Knodle, and Betty Jo Montalvo, all of Las Cruces, Maria Chavez and Rita Gallegos, both of Fort Sumner, Esther Segura of Roswell, Francis Potts of Tipton, Okla., and Velen Anthony of Albuquerque; four bothers, Justo “Jay”, and Richard Lopez, both of Fort Sumner, Maximiliano Lopez Jr. of Beaumont, Texas, and Bobby Ray Lopez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, Adrian Coe, Savannah, Ariane and Jade Carabajal, Adam Morales, Jazmin and Brandon Lopez, Jacqueilyn and Ezequiel Lopez, Erika and Paul Isaac Warpula, and Elleana Lopez; and an aunt, Eloisa Lopez of Fort Sumner.
Visitation is scheduled at 6 p.m. tonight at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Getz Funeral Home Chapel in Las Cruces.
A second prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fort Sumner.
Burial will be at Fort Sumner Cemetery with military honors.
Arrangements are by Chavez Funeral Home of Fort Sumner.
