Richard Tivis, 75, of Lubbock, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1929, in Muleshoe, to Richard L. and Beatrice Carter Tivis. At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Lubbock, where he attended school and graduated from Lubbock High School in 1947. He attended Texas Tech University in pursuit of a real estate license. He owned and operated entertainment venues in Lubbock, Amarillo, and Dallas for 20 years. He married Sharon Wilhite on Jan. 19, 1972, in Lubbock. While operating the nightclub businesses, he ventured into the ambulance business, in which he owned and operated Lubbock Ambulance for the next several years. He then owned and operated “Stripe A Zone” for 45 years before retiring. He was a Baptist.
Suvivors include his wife; four children, Cheryl Swinney, Ricky and Eddie Tivis and Darla Tivis Rodgers (and husband, Eldon); five grandchildren, Bryan, Zachary, Chantry, Cody, and La Voe; and a sister, Barbara Ellsworth (Winston).
Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock.
