Mrs. Ruth I. Reid, 89, of Farwell, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Farwell Convalescent Center.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1915, in Wellington, Texas, to Oliver and Sadie Tucker. She married Wilson Levi Reid on Nov. 15, 1931, in Reydon, Roger Mills County, Okla. Until 1961, she helped with a farm operation near Texico. In 1967 she received her New Mexico High School Equivalency Certificate. She worked as a sales clerk and cashier, a bus driver and a library assistant at Texico schools. She also worked at the drug store in Texico, “The Red Cross Pharmacy,” and checked groceries for Piggly Wiggly Grocery in Farwell. She was an employee and member of First Baptist Church. Family members said she was very fond of music, played the piano and organ and sang in the church choir.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Bill D. and Jerry O. Reid; two grandchildren, Gary Wilson Reid and Desiree Nicole Reid; and a great-grandchild, Landon Kyle Reid.
Survivors include three sons, W.O. Reid of Logan, Don Reid (and wife, Zane) of Clovis, and Ken Reid of Albuquerque; two daughters, Margie Crooks (Arlye) of Texico and Sue Webster (Doyal) of Union, Ky.; a sister, Erma Riley of Tuttle, Okla.; a brother, J.N. Tucker of Pampa, Texas; all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Elder Paul G. Crooks, assisted by the Rev. Rob Hollis, will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Texico Cemetery.
Pallbearers are her grandsons, Britt Crooks, Jimmy, Danny, Kevin, Terry, Jackie, Doug and Dean Reid, and Wade Webster.
Honorary pallbearers are her seven granddaughters, 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
