Gordon L. Brown, a Lubbock native and Portales resident, will celebrate his 80th birthday from 2 p.m to 4 p.m Saturday at the Rough Rider Room, First and Abilene streets in Portales.
The celebration will be hosted by his children, Marlin Brown (Michelle), Greg Brown (Sharon), Ouida Aday (Brad), Sandi Bennett (Buddy), Benny Bowman and Gordon’s wife Melba Darlene.
Gordon was born Nov. 29 in Megargel, Texas. He has five children, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Gordon was in the class of 1942 at Portales High School. He served in the Navy returning to get his degree at Eastern New Mexico University in 1949. He worked as a printer at Portales News-Tribune, Plexico Printing, managed Bishop Printing and retired from the New Mexico Department of Labor in 1996. This celebration is open to all friends and relatives.
Sarah Morrow of Clovis and Cody Stewart of Clovis were joined in marriage Nov. 15, 2004 in a double-ring ceremony by the honorable Judge Ribble Holloman.
The bride is the daughter of Lisa Morrow and Ron Durant of Clovis and Mark and Donna Morrow of Clovis.
She is the granddaughter of Margaret and the late Jesse Huerta and Janet Morrow and Larry and Marge Morrow all from Clovis.
The bridegroom is the son of Jerry and Kathy Stewart of Clovis.
He is the grandson of Boyd and Betty Trull and R. G. and Margie Stewart, all of Clovis.
The couple will reside in Clovis.
The bride is employed at the Portales News-Tribune and is a student at Clovis Community College.
The groom is employed at Gordon’s Jewelers.
A reception for the couple will be announced at a later date.
