Rev. John McCraw, 85, of Elida, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born on July 26, 1919, in Rayne, La., to Stella and John M. McCraw.
He grew up in Louisiana during the 1930s. He married Wanda Ann Tobey on Nov. 25, 1937, in Beaumont, Texas. He was a graduate of Howard Payne University. He served as a bi-vocational Baptist minister for 55 years.
During that time he started numerous churches throughout the South and Southwest. He earned supplemental money by working on ranches, in addition to his ministerial duties. He lived in Elida for the past eight years.
Family members said one of the things he enjoyed doing for pleasure was woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Howard McCraw; two sisters, Vernice Lovett and Annie Letteral; a daughter-in-law, Margie McCraw; and two grandchildren, J.T. and Miriam McCraw.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Wayne McCraw (and wife, Jimmie) of Benson, Ariz., Ray McCraw (Christy) and John McCraw (Zulma), all of Tucson, Ariz. and Gene McCraw of Oark, Ark.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Herb Gage officiated the services.
